From Scattered to Strategic: An Edmonton Realtor’s Visual Brand Transformation

What happens when you’re great at what you do… but your visual branding doesn’t actually reflect who you are?

That’s exactly where Laura was when we started working together.

Laura Tosto is an Edmonton realtor with more than 20 years of experience. She’s warm, funny, professional, trustworthy, loves food and wine, and is basically the cool aunt you want to hang out with.

But when she came to me, her visual brand wasn’t showing any of that.

Her words?

“I have no visual consistency. I’m using different fonts, colors, photo styles, and most of all, no photos at all. It feels unprofessional. Nothing that captures my personality.”

She described her Instagram as scattered and unclear, and wasn’t sure whether her personal brand should lean more toward luxury or feel more approachable.

The problem wasn’t Laura.

The problem was that the incredible woman behind the business and the brand people were seeing online felt like two completely different things.

The Before: A Personal Brand That Didn’t Feel Like Her

Like a lot of business owners, Laura hadn’t intentionally created a visual brand.

She was posting because she knew she should be posting.

There were listing photos. Market updates. Personal photos. Different graphics, fonts and colours.

But there wasn’t anything visually tying it all together.

More importantly, it didn’t give potential clients a real sense of Laura.

And that’s a huge part of personal branding and visual branding.

Your visual brand isn’t just about making your Instagram feed prettier. It’s about creating a recognizable look and feel that helps people understand who you are, what you do and what it might actually feel like to work with you.

For a realtor, that matters even more.

People aren’t only choosing someone to list a house. They’re choosing the person they’ll text with questions, trust during negotiations, call when they’re panicking and rely on during one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

Your personality is part of the brand.

Laura’s existing visuals simply weren’t communicating hers.

Creating a Visual Branding Strategy

Before choosing colours or planning a brand photoshoot, we needed to figure out what Laura’s brand was actually supposed to communicate.

We got clear on her personality, her ideal clients, the experience she wanted people to have with her and the overall visual direction of the brand.

The goal wasn’t to turn Laura into a polished, corporate version of herself.

Quite the opposite.

We wanted the brand to feel approachable, professional and elevated, while still feeling unmistakably like Laura.

From there, we created the visual pieces to support it:

  • A visual brand audit
  • Ideal client clarity
  • A custom colour palette
  • A curated font system
  • A brand board to guide her visuals
  • Custom Canva templates
  • Strategic direction for her brand photography
  • A personal brand photoshoot designed around her personality and business

Now, instead of making a new visual decision every time she wants to create something, Laura has an actual system to work from.

A Brand Photoshoot That Shows More Than “Realtor”

Then came the photography.

This is one of my favourite parts of creating a personal brand because your brand photos can communicate SO much more than what you do for work.

Yes, Laura needed professional realtor brand photography.

But we didn’t need 100 photos of her holding a SOLD sign or standing in front of a house.

We wanted to show the person her clients actually get to work with.

So we photographed different sides of her brand and personality: polished and professional, relaxed and approachable, working in beautiful home environments and even cooking with a glass of wine in hand.

Because those details matter.

Strategic brand photography should give you images that support your marketing, but it should also give potential clients little clues about the human behind the business.

That’s what helps a personal brand start to feel personal.

The After: An Approachable, Elevated and Consistent Brand

Once the pieces came together, the difference was pretty freaking obvious.

Laura now had professional brand photos that actually felt like her, a cohesive colour palette and font system, and Canva templates she could use to create content without reinventing the wheel every time she opened Instagram.

Her feed went from scattered and inconsistent to clear, cohesive and recognizable.

But the best part wasn’t simply that everything looked better.

Laura said:

“Now I have visuals that feel true to me and align with my brand… approachable, professional, and elevated.”

THAT is the goal.

Not a brand that looks like everybody else’s.

Not a perfectly coordinated Instagram feed just for the sake of being pretty.

A visual brand that makes showing up easier because it actually feels like you.

What Changed Beyond the Visuals

Laura didn’t just walk away with pretty photos and colours.

She walked away with clarity.

Instead of second-guessing how things should look every time she creates something, she has a visual direction to follow.

She’s showing up more consistently and intentionally.

And she’s hearing from potential clients who already feel like they know her before they’ve even met.

That’s what happens when your visual branding, personal brand and photography start telling the same story.

Your marketing begins doing some of the relationship-building for you.

Does Your Visual Brand Actually Feel Like You?

If you’re a service-based business owner who’s become the face of your business, your visuals matter.

Your colours matter.

Your fonts matter.

Your brand photography matters.

But none of those things should be chosen just because they’re trendy or pretty.

Together, they should communicate something about you.

And if you’re looking at your website or Instagram right now thinking, Yeahhhh… mine definitely isn’t doing that, that’s exactly the kind of thing I help my clients figure out.

I’m an Edmonton brand photographer and visual brand mentor, and I work with service-based women to create cohesive personal brands that feel like them, help them show up confidently and make their businesses more recognizable online.

I help business owners bring their visual branding and brand photography together so everything finally feels cohesive.
